Johnston Press, one of the UK’s largest media companies and the publisher of the national newspaper i, The Yorkshire Post, The Scotsman and Northern Ireland’s News Letter, is working with Vodafone UK to transform its technology infrastructure as it evolves its digital publishing strategy.
Vodafone is providing data centre, workforce mobility and network services to support the delivery of two strategic transformation programmes at Johnston Press – ‘Newsroom of the Future’ and ‘Salesforce of the Future’ – which have been rolled out across its national and regional news outlets.
These programmes introduce a new flexible working model for Johnston Press staff, giving reporters and field sales teams the ability to work in any location, at any time, with access to the online services and digital platforms they need. As part of this initiative, Johnston Press is trialing the use of live streaming to relay news stories via smartphones to its online media outlets and looking at new ways to enhance the advertising experience.
Lee Whitworth, Head of Enterprise Technology at Johnston Press, commented: “Digital is core to our business strategy and how we engage with our customers and communities.
